1917

1917 Homecoming

Because of the World War, the 1917 season was almost cancelled, however it was decided to have a reduced schedule.  The Gophers had 4 wins and 1 loss during the season.  It does not appear that any of those games were designated as Homecoming and there were no buttons created that year.

  1. I wish I could find where I've written this down, but in the recent past I looked through the Star-Tribune archives and an Illinois newspaper and find that sportswriters - in at least two instances - refer to the Chicago game as Minnesota's homecoming contest. - FWIW - Steve

  2. Thank you for your comment. Based on the information that the Chicago game which was played November 17th may have been Homecoming I looked at the Minnesota Daily newspapers around that time. The 11/14 and 11/16 editions verify that the Chicago game was held on Homecoming. The 11/14 edition also confirms that no Homecoming buttons were sold for 1917. In the new future I will include the details in the 1917 space. Thanks again
