November 14, 1914 Minnesota 14 Wisconsin 3
Northrop Field
Attendance 17,000
November 14, 1914 was the first official University of Minnesota Homecoming. Homecoming buttons were sold to offset the costs associated with the event. The numbers on the buttons were used to award tickets to the Homecoming concert and dance. These were not awarded to specific selected numbers. Instead, in each 100 buttons manufactured there were two buttons assigned the same number and the tickets were given to the students that found the person with the button number matching the number on their button
The buttons were numbered consecutively to 3000 so about 3030 buttons were created. The first 1000 buttons went on sale Saturday November 7th. By Monday those buttons were all sold so an additional 1500 were released for sale on Wednesday November 11th. Sales for those buttons were also strong so the remaining buttons went on sale Friday November 13th.
Button information and attendance figure are from The Minnesota Daily 11/7/1914 through 11/17/1914
