The University of Minnesota website indicates that there was no Homecoming in 1916, however, there is a 1916 Homecoming Button. I appreciate Tom Betcher supplying a photo of the 1916 Homecoming Button as I do not have this particular button. If you have a 1916 Button and would be willing to sell it, I would be very interested, just post a comment and I will contact you!
